…Where No Man Has Gone Before

Can I vent here for a second?

I’m a little taken aback at how many people I know are clambering to see the new Star Trek film. Let’s flashback to elementary school, where a young Clayton Flagg watched Trek religiously, built tricorders and phasers out of lego and brought them to school so he could play Star Trek with a small number of fellow geeks at lunch time.

The same Clayton who went as Data for Halloween, who built a model of the enterprise, collected Star Trek cards, and who actually owned The Starfleet Technical Manual.

And guess where this love for Trek got young Clayton Flagg in the vast social web of elementary and high school? Pretty much fucking nowhere. I was a loser. A geek. A nerd. And these were not cool things at the time, like it is now (for some reason). No, I was banished from all things cool because I was a Trekkie.

Now… JJ Abrams makes a flashy Trek movie and all those jocks and punks who pushed me around many years ago, are standing in line for the midnight screening. And all I have to say is…

Fascinating, and very illogical.

Back To The Bumble

Yes… we’re back. Not today, but tomorrow. Tuesday, April 14, 2009: The Bumble returns. I’m a little flattered at how many people have been asking when the Bumble is coming back. Thanks, folks. It means a lot.

Also: for all that time where there was no Bumble in March and April, stay tuned for installments of “The Mine Shaft Saga”… find out how the guys ended up in that mine shaft, and how they got out. And if anybody has any ideas, send them to me. Cause I have no clue how I’m gonna write that one.

PS - I love this piece of fan art I recieved:

A Bundle O’ Bumble Buttons

Yes! They’re here! Greatly anticipated (by me) Daily Bumble buttons are now available. If you’re a resident of the Lower Mainland, you can come grab one at the Daily Bumble Anniversary Party this Thursday night at Chill Winston.

If you live outside of the Vancouver area, e-mail me your address at c_flagg@shaw.ca, and I will gladly send you one.

Supplies are limited (that sounds phoney, but I mean it. I don’t have many of them), so act now!

Very First Bumble Animation

I’ve finally posted the Daily Bumble cartoon I created for the Trick 17 Stop Motion Film Competition. And here it is:

Animation For The Nation

Hey Bumblers!

Just a quick little chunk-o-news: The Daily Bumble is currently producing its very first animated short. Oh yeah. You heard it here first! (Unless I told you already… but that was only like, 3 or 4 people.)

The animation will be played at the screening night for the Trick 17 Stop Motion Competition, which I am also participating in. The competition takes place November 14-16 with the screening night on the 22nd. If you’re handy with animation, you should join up! Or at least come to the screening at the Granville 7 Cinemas. I’ll be there!

Stay tuned for more Bumble news, and have a happy Halloween!

Turkey Day (For Canada)

Happy thanksgiving, Canadian Bumblers! (Don’t worry Americans, yours is coming soon.)

I hope everyone in the Great White North feasts upon turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes and all the fixin’s, surrounded by their loved ones. :)

I was gonna write a Bumble about Thanksgiving, but I couldn’t think of one that was funny. Sorry! Maybe next year. Eat. Be merry. And sleep well. (Turkey coma)

Out With The Old…

…in with something recycled.

If you’re a regular visitor, you’ve already noticed the drastic change in layout! I’m working to make the site easier to use and a little easier on the eyes, too. The comics are now larger, and you can actually read the lettering. Plus, I’ll be regularly updating my blog (which you are currently reading) in addition to the comic. So there’s something to read beyond the Bumble itself.

Exciting times lay ahead in the world of the Bumble! Make sure you stay tuned, and tell your friends.

Love,

Clayton
